Person-Centred Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Person-centred cogntivie behaviour therapy: Your first sessions will involve an initial assessment gathering information to help me learn more about you, your current support, and your experiences. This will also include questions that screen for self-harm and risk of suicide to ensure that we can create a safety plan together if required. Additionally, all sessions are booked and paid for in advance by you, so there’s no pressure to book there and then during our first conversation together. You can book your free initial consultation to find out more by using the booking calendar here and use the same link to book future appointments. Alternatively, I offer block booking discounts in my website shop here.

I want to learn about my thoughts and behaviour patterns and experiement with steps I can take to support me…

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy aims to follow structured sessions that we create together to support you in learning more about how your thoughts and behaviours are connected. The more we can learn about this connection, the more it aids us in understanding their impact. For example, physical symptoms you may experience in your body and coping strategies you might use – both helpful and unhelpful. We can explore tools and worksheets together and determine if specific activities might be beneficial for your individual experiences.

Some people find it really helpful to see patterns in their thoughts, physical symptoms, behaviours, and emotions mapped out. This can be one of our first pieces of work together and can inform the next steps that support you in making the positive changes you wish to gain from therapy.

What is Person-Centred Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Person-centred therapy provides clients with a therapeutic space to speak about what is important to them in a safe, comfortable, confidential environment.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a type of structured therapy in which the client and the therapist work together to identify thoughts and behaviour patterns that may feel unhelpful.

Integrating the two therapies supports a therapeutic relationship between client and therapist in which we can explore and be curious about what is happening and take steps towards positive change together. I tend to work pluralistically, which means using elements of various approaches that fall under the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy umbrella, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. These are all therapies that focus on working with your thoughts and behaviour patterns.

What can Person-Centred Cognitive Behaviour Therapy be used for?

If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, and/or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), cogntiive behaviour therapy may be able to help.

How many sessions of person-centred cognitive behaviour therapy might I need?

16-24 sessions, weekly or fortnightly. This can vary depending on the complexity of the challenges you are experiencing.

What happens during the first session?

During our first sessions together, I will gather information about you and what led you to seek therapy. This will include your history and anything else you feel is important for me to know before we begin our therapy. Sometimes this can take several sessions to complete.

What happens during subsequent sessions?

Each subsequent session will begin with us having a discussion about what we would both like to include in our session today. This could be something important that’s happened and you’d like to discuss it. You may have decided to do some work between sessions, and we will explore your progress together. It could also involve learning a relaxation or grounding technique. Each session varies but always begins with us working together to decide what is most important to you in that specific session and ends with time for us to explore how the session went.

How can I book an appointment?

You can book your free initial consultation by phone using this link.

After that you can book in and pay for your first appointment here. I do offer discounted rates using block bookings here. However, it is always best to attend your first appointment before paying for a block booking so that we can both be sure that our working together is right for you and your needs.
